Local Programs (July 1, 2007 - June 30, 2008)


Education

Continue to study and monitor the future funding of Tennessee schools. Identify the proposed changes in the funding formula and how it impacts the Oak Ridge school system. Take action where appropriate.

Study the progress of the state funded Pre-K classes in Oak Ridge and across Tennessee.

Promote community awareness of benefits and results of the Healthy Start program. Work to convince the public and the local governments of the need for adequate, continuous funding of Healthy Start.

Housing

Study various aspects of housing in Oak Ridge and environs. Identify groups working to improve housing stock, understand their operations, and analyze the present and ideal role of the City of Oak Ridge in the housing market.

Seek answers to the questions:

    1. What sorts (price levels, density) of new housing and rehabilitated housing should we strive for in Oak Ridge?
    2. Are present efforts taking us in that direction?
    3. Are their groups whose housing needs are not being addressed?

City Government

Study the fiscal policy of the City of Oak Ridge with the possibility of consensus.

Voting Technology

Advocate for a verifiable paper trail for the eSlate voting machines in Anderson County; demonstrate eSlate voting machines to the voting public; and keep abreast of the rapidly changing field of voting technology.
